Creatures

Breed Ledger and Creatures, side by side.

A comparison written to be fair. Every Creatures cell comes from Creatures' own public pages, read on the date below.

In short

What each one is.

Breed Ledger is registry software for breed clubs, associations and registries of any species. Boards and registrars run it, and members take part through their club.

Creatures, as its own pages described it on 7 November 2026, offers a registry with a public, searchable herdbook and tools for shows, and says it is where animals live online.

The table below sets the two side by side. Where Creatures' pages say nothing about a row, the cell says so.

How your club's records are governed

Fit

Where each fits.

Breed Ledger fits when

  • A board and registrars run the club
  • Membership, dues and the registry share one set of records, and events join them when your club turns them on
  • Your club decides what the public sees

Creatures may fit better when

  • Your club wants a registry that is free to set up, with no annual license
  • You want the registry on the same site as a marketplace for animals

Questions

Questions about Creatures and Breed Ledger.

What is the difference between Breed Ledger and Creatures?
Creatures' pages, as read on 7 November 2026, describe a registration review queue and certificates anyone can verify, and also describe dues paid by card into the association's Creatures balance and shows for associations and show organizers. On Breed Ledger, registrars and admins decide registration requests in a queue, unless the club approves registrations on payment, and anyone can check a certificate once your club turns on certificates. Breed Ledger runs your club's membership, dues and registry from the same records, and its events when your club turns them on.
Is Creatures free?
Creatures' registry pages, as read on 7 November 2026, say it is "free to set up", with "no annual license, no per member fee", and list printed certificates as an optional charge per certificate. Breed Ledger plans are priced per club or registry, never per member.
Can a club move its registry from Creatures to Breed Ledger?
Yes, from what the club can export. Dusty Mumphrey, Breed Ledger's founder, moves your records with you, and moving them is currently free. Creatures' pages, as read on 7 November 2026, do not describe exporting a registry, so bring what you can export to the demo call and he checks it with you there.
Can a club's registry be public on Breed Ledger?
When your club turns it on. Whether your club has a public registry is a club setting, off until your club turns it on. Where the registry is public, members choose Private or Public when they register an animal.
Does Breed Ledger work for more than one species?
Yes. Breed Ledger serves breed clubs, associations and registries of any species, and one organization can register more than one species, each one it has set up.
