The confirmation that Sable and Cappuccino are allelic (different mutations at the same genetic locus) was the first allelic complex proven in crested gecko genetics. The proof came from breeding Sable to Cappuccino and producing Luwak offspring instead of Super Cappuccino. The Sable/Cappuccino Allelic Complex - FIRST CONFIRMED IN CRESTED GECKOS

MAJOR DISCOVERY: Sable and Cappuccino are ALLELIC. They occupy the SAME GENETIC LOCUS. This is the first confirmed allelic complex in crested gecko genetics and fundamentally changes our understanding of these traits.
What "Allelic" Means
Alleles are different versions of the same gene at the same location (locus) on a chromosome. Think of it like:
- A locus is a "parking spot" on the chromosome
- Each individual has TWO parking spots at each locus (one from each parent)
- Alleles are different "cars" that can occupy those spots
- Sable and Cappuccino are different "cars" competing for the same TWO spots
Because they occupy the same locus, an individual can only have TWO alleles total at that spot:
Possible Genotypes at Sable/Cappuccino Locus:
- SA/SA - Super Sable (both spots have Sable)
- CAPP/CAPP - Super Cappuccino (both spots have Cappuccino)
- SA/CAPP - Luwak (one Sable, one Cappuccino) ← This proves allelism!
- SA/+ - Het Sable (one Sable, one normal)
- CAPP/+ - Het Cappuccino (one Cappuccino, one normal)
- +/+ - Normal (both spots have normal allele)
CANNOT have:
- Super Sable AND Super Cappuccino simultaneously (only 2 spots total)
- More than 2 alleles at this locus (physically impossible)
- An animal with SA/SA/CAPP (would need 3 spots)
Critical Implication: You CANNOT get Super Sable AND Super Cappuccino traits in the same animal. They're competing for the same genetic real estate.

This is the most comprehensive health study conducted on any crested gecko morph. Nearly 100 Super Cappuccino and Sorak animals were evaluated across international breeding programs.
Structural Issues (Homozygous CAPP/CAPP only):
Nostril Size (~11% affected):
- Some Super Cappuccino show reduced nostril size
- Appears as smaller nostril openings
- Most do NOT have breathing difficulties despite reduced size
- Does not typically require intervention

Spectacle Eye (<3% affected):

Ethical Breeding:
- Super Cappuccino is NOT lethal (can be bred ethically)
- CAN be produced responsibly with monitoring
