Frappuccino & Sorak: Advanced Lilly White Combinations

Part of the Crested Gecko Genetics Series. Last updated March 2026.

Frappuccino (Cappuccino + Lilly White) and Sorak (Super Cappuccino + Lilly White) are two of the most visually striking combinations in the crested gecko hobby. They're also two of the most dangerous to breed incorrectly. Both contain Lilly White, which means lethal combination risks apply to every pairing decision. This post covers the genetics, the visuals, the safe pairings, and the ones that will kill embryos.

Prerequisites: This post assumes you've read the Lilly White Safety Guide and The Sable/Cappuccino Allelic Complex.

Frappuccino (CAPP/+ + L/+) - Two-Trait Combination ⚠️ LETHAL RISK

Frappuccino crested gecko combining Cappuccino and Lilly White

What It Is

The combination of Cappuccino AND Lilly White in a single gecko, creating a rare and highly prized appearance. This is NOT a single trait. It's TWO incomplete dominant traits combined on SEPARATE loci.

Formula: CAPP/+ (het Cappuccino) + L/+ (het Lilly White)

CRITICAL SAFETY: Frappuccino contains Lilly White gene, creating LETHAL breeding risks.

Visual Characteristics

Frappuccino Appearance:

  • High white from Lilly White gene (L/+)
  • Darkened rich tones from Cappuccino gene (CAPP/+)
  • Extreme contrast between white and dark areas
  • Distinct headstamp with dark pigment
  • Deep orange coloration in some areas
  • Tons of variation depending on other background genetics
  • Often stunning, gallery-quality appearance
  • Combines dramatically with patterns (Harlequin, Dalmatian, Pinstripe)

Phantom Frappuccino Variant:

When Phantom (PH/PH) is added to Frappuccino:

  • Further suppression of white patterning
  • Creates darker, higher contrast animals
  • More vibrant coloration overall
  • Extreme pattern suppression effects
  • Very rare and sought-after combination

Genetics - Two Separate Loci

CRITICAL UNDERSTANDING: Frappuccino involves TWO separate genetic loci:

Locus 1 - Cappuccino:

  • Position: Cappuccino/Sable locus
  • Genotype: CAPP/+ (heterozygous Cappuccino)

Locus 2 - Lilly White:

  • Position: Lilly White locus
  • Genotype: L/+ (heterozygous Lilly White)

These are INDEPENDENT traits that can be inherited separately or together.

Full Genotype Notation:

  • Frappuccino = (CAPP/+ , L/+)
  • Reads as: "het Cappuccino, het Lilly White"
  • Two different loci, two different traits

How Frappuccino Is Created

Parent 1: Cappuccino (CAPP/+ , +/+)

  • Has Cappuccino gene
  • Does NOT have Lilly White gene

Parent 2: Lilly White (+/+ , L/+)

  • Has Lilly White gene
  • Does NOT have Cappuccino gene

Pairing: Cappuccino × Lilly White

Genetic Segregation:

For Cappuccino locus:

Cappuccino × Lilly WhiteLilly White (+)Lilly White (+)
Cappuccino (CAPP)CAPP/+CAPP/+
Normal (+)+/++/+

50% het Cappuccino, 50% normal at this locus

For Lilly White locus:

Cappuccino × Lilly WhiteLilly White (L)Normal (+)
Normal (+)L/++/+
Normal (+)L/++/+

50% het Lilly White, 50% normal at this locus

Combined Outcomes:

  • 25% Normal (+/+, +/+)
  • 25% Cappuccino only (CAPP/+, +/+)
  • 25% Lilly White only (+/+, L/+)
  • 25% Frappuccino (CAPP/+, L/+) ✓

Only 25% chance of getting the combo because offspring must inherit BOTH genes independently.

Breeding Frappuccino - CRITICAL SAFETY

Frappuccino Genetics:

  • Cappuccino locus: CAPP/+
  • Lilly White locus: L/+

Frappuccino carries LILLY WHITE - creates LETHAL breeding risks.

SAFE Pairing:

Frappuccino (CAPP/+ , L/+) × Normal (+/+ , +/+):

For Cappuccino locus:

Frappuccino × NormalNormal (+)Normal (+)
Frappuccino (CAPP)CAPP/+CAPP/+
Normal (+)+/++/+

For Lilly White locus:

Frappuccino × NormalNormal (+)Normal (+)
Frappuccino (L)L/+L/+
Normal (+)+/++/+

Combined Outcomes:

  • 25% Normal (+/+, +/+)
  • 25% Cappuccino only (CAPP/+, +/+)
  • 25% Lilly White only (+/+, L/+)
  • 25% Frappuccino (CAPP/+, L/+)

✓ SAFE - No lethal combinations

Safety: ✓ NO lethal combinations, ✓ NO super forms, ✓ Safe and ethical

DANGEROUS Pairings - NEVER DO THESE:

Frappuccino (CAPP/+ , L/+) × Lilly White (+/+ , L/+):

For Lilly White locus (THE LETHAL RISK):

Frappuccino (L/+) × Lilly White (L/+)Lilly White (L)Normal (+)
Frappuccino (L)L/L ❌ LETHALL/+
Normal (+)L/++/+

RESULT: 25% Super Lilly White (L/L) = DEATH ❌

RESULT:

  • 25% Super Lilly White (L/L) = DEATH
  • Both parents carry Lilly White gene
  • 25% of eggs will die
  • Completely irresponsible
  • Animal cruelty

Why This Happens:

  • Frappuccino has L/+ (carries Lilly White)
  • Lilly White has L/+ (carries Lilly White)
  • Both can pass L allele
  • L from both parents = L/L = LETHAL

Frappuccino (CAPP/+ , L/+) × Frappuccino (CAPP/+ , L/+):

For Lilly White locus:

Frappuccino (L/+) × Frappuccino (L/+)Frappuccino (L)Normal (+)
Frappuccino (L)L/L ❌ LETHALL/+
Frappuccino (+)L/++/+

For Cappuccino locus:

Frappuccino (CAPP/+) × Frappuccino (CAPP/+)Frappuccino (CAPP)Normal (+)
Frappuccino (CAPP)CAPP/CAPPCAPP/+
Normal (+)CAPP/++/+

RESULT: 25% Super Lilly White (L/L) = DEATH ❌ + 25% Super Cappuccino (CAPP/CAPP)

RESULT:

  • 25% Super Lilly White (L/L) = DEATH
  • Also 25% Super Cappuccino (CAPP/CAPP) - health monitoring required
  • Double danger from both traits
  • Extremely irresponsible
  • Multiple ethical violations

Frappuccino (CAPP/+ , L/+) × Cappuccino (CAPP/+ , +/+):

For Cappuccino locus:

Frappuccino (CAPP/+) × Cappuccino (CAPP/+)Cappuccino (CAPP)Normal (+)
Frappuccino (CAPP)CAPP/CAPPCAPP/+
Normal (+)CAPP/++/+

For Lilly White locus:

Frappuccino × CappuccinoNormal (+)Normal (+)
Frappuccino (L)L/+L/+
Normal (+)+/++/+

Result: Safe for Lilly White ✓, 25% Super Cappuccino (monitor health)

RESULT:

  • Safe for Lilly White (no lethal risk) ✓
  • 25% Super Cappuccino (CAPP/CAPP) - monitor for health
  • Less dangerous but requires health monitoring
  • Ethical WITH proper monitoring and selection

This pairing is acceptable if you:

  • Monitor Super Cappuccino hatchlings for health
  • Incubate at 69-71°F
  • Evaluate nostril size and eye health
  • Select against severe issues
  • Are prepared for Super Cappuccino care

Why These Combinations Are LETHAL

Understanding the Genetics:

Lilly White × Lilly White:

  • Both parents: L/+
  • Can both pass L
  • 25% chance of L/L (Super Lilly White)
  • L/L = LETHAL

Frappuccino × Lilly White:

  • Frappuccino: L/+ (carries Lilly White)
  • Lilly White: L/+ (carries Lilly White)
  • Both can pass L
  • 25% chance of L/L (Super Lilly White)
  • L/L = LETHAL

Frappuccino × Frappuccino:

  • Both parents: L/+ (both carry Lilly White)
  • Both can pass L
  • 25% chance of L/L (Super Lilly White)
  • L/L = LETHAL
  • ALSO risk Super Cappuccino

The Common Factor: Both parents carry Lilly White gene = LETHAL RISK

Safety Rule: NEVER pair two animals that BOTH carry Lilly White gene (L)

Market Value & Ethics

Price Range: $800-$3000+ (very rare, high demand, complex genetics, dramatic appearance)

Why So Expensive:

  • Requires two specific genes (CAPP + L)
  • Only 25% chance from Cappuccino × Lilly White pairing
  • Dramatic visual appearance
  • High demand from collectors
  • Complex genetics story
  • Rare and desirable combination

Ethical Breeding Requirements:

SAFE pairings:

  • Frappuccino × Normal (no Lilly White, no Cappuccino) - SAFEST
  • Frappuccino × Cappuccino (safe for Lilly White, monitor Super Cappuccino)
  • Produce mixed outcomes safely

NEVER pair:

  • Frappuccino × Lilly White (LETHAL RISK - 25% death)
  • Frappuccino × Frappuccino (LETHAL RISK - 25% death)
  • Frappuccino × Any animal carrying Lilly White gene
  • Any pairing where both parents carry L

Breeder Responsibility:

If you produce or sell Frappuccinos, you MUST:

  1. Understand genetic composition - CAPP/+ AND L/+
  2. Know they carry Lilly White - creates lethal risk
  3. NEVER pair with other Lilly White carriers - prevents deaths
  4. Educate buyers extensively about LETHAL risks
  5. Provide written genetic breakdown - not just "Frappuccino"
  6. Screen buyers for understanding - ensure they comprehend
  7. Refuse sales to buyers who don't understand - protect animals
  8. Follow up with education - confirm understanding

What to Tell Buyers:

"This Frappuccino is genetically:

  • Het Cappuccino (CAPP/+) at Cappuccino locus
  • Het Lilly White (L/+) at Lilly White locus

CRITICAL SAFETY WARNING:

  • NEVER pair with Lilly White (LETHAL - 25% death)
  • NEVER pair with another Frappuccino (LETHAL - 25% death)
  • ONLY safe pairing: Frappuccino × Normal (no Lilly White)

Do you understand and commit to safe breeding practices?"

Sorak (CAPP/CAPP + L/+) - Super Cappuccino + Lilly White

Sorak crested gecko with extreme melanistic and white patterns

What It Is

The combination of Super Cappuccino (homozygous CAPP/CAPP) + Lilly White (heterozygous L/+). An extreme and rare combination requiring Super Cappuccino form.

Formula: CAPP/CAPP + L/+

Two Cappuccino genes + One Lilly White gene

Visual Characteristics

Sorak Appearance:

  • Dark granite-like pattern (melanistic from Super Cappuccino)
  • Aberrant broken bands on translucent grey background
  • Some variants show white blotching with reduced melanin (Lilly White influence)
  • ONLY melanin present. No orange, red, or yellow pigment in chromatophores
  • Extreme appearance,Super Cappuccino eliminates xanthophores/erythrophores
  • Dramatic contrast between melanistic areas and white
  • Very rare and unique appearance

Why So Extreme:

Super Cappuccino (CAPP/CAPP):

  • Eliminates ALL yellow and red pigmentation
  • Only melanin (black/brown) remains
  • No xanthophores (yellow cells)
  • No erythrophores (red cells)

Lilly White (L/+):

  • Creates white pattern areas
  • Reduces pigmentation further

Combined:

  • Only melanin in dark areas
  • White in Lilly White pattern areas
  • No other colors possible
  • Extreme monochromatic appearance

Health Considerations - SAME AS SUPER CAPPUCCINO

Includes Super Cappuccino health data:

Sorak was included in the nearly 100-animal Super Cappuccino health study.

Potential Issues (from Super Cappuccino component):

  • ~11% nostril issues (same as Super Cappuccino alone)
  • <3% spectacle eye prevalence (same as Super Cappuccino alone)
  • May have shorter snout structure (variable)
  • Most do NOT have functional problems

Monitoring Required:

  • Evaluate ALL hatchlings carefully for nostril size
  • Check for spectacle eye development
  • Monitor breathing (most are fine despite smaller nostrils)
  • Incubate at 69-71°F for reduced structural issues
  • Select against severe issues in breeding
  • Keep detailed health records

Important Clarifications:

Not lethal (unlike Super Lilly White) ✓ Can live normal, healthy lives with monitoring ✓ Fertile (both sexes can breed) ✓ No special care required beyond monitoring ✓ Ethical when produced responsibly with health screening

This is Super Cappuccino health profile, not Lilly White lethality.

Genetics

Requires:

  • Two copies of Cappuccino (CAPP/CAPP) - Super form
  • One copy of Lilly White (L/+) - het form

Full Genotype: (CAPP/CAPP , L/+)

How Created:

Option 1: Super Cappuccino (CAPP/CAPP , +/+) × Lilly White (+/+ , L/+)

All offspring get:
-One
- 50% get L(CAPP/+L/+)
- 50% get +(CAPP/++/+)

Wait, this doesn't produce Sorak directly. Let me reconsider...

To Get Sorak (CAPP/CAPP , L/+):

You need BOTH:

  • Two CAPP alleles (Super Cappuccino)
  • One L allele (Lilly White)

Best Route:

  1. Produce Frappuccino (CAPP/+ , L/+)
  2. Breed Frappuccino × Cappuccino

Frappuccino (CAPP/+ , L/+) × Cappuccino (CAPP/+ , +/+):

Frappuccino (CAPP/+, L/+) × Cappuccino (CAPP/+, +/+)Cappuccino (CAPP)Normal (+)
Frappuccino (CAPP)CAPP/CAPPCAPP/+
Normal (+)CAPP/++/+

Plus Lilly White segregates: 50% L/+, 50% +/+

Possible Sorak (CAPP/CAPP, L/+): 25% × 50% = 12.5% chance

Or:

Super Cappuccino (CAPP/CAPP , +/+) × Lilly White (+/+ , L/+):

All offspring at Cappuccino locus: CAPP/+ All offspring at Lilly White locus: +/+ or L/+

Result: All Frappuccino (CAPP/+ , L/+) or Cappuccino (CAPP/+ , +/+)

Does NOT produce Sorak - need two CAPP alleles

To produce Sorak, need:

  • Parent with CAPP/CAPP (Super Cappuccino)
  • Parent with L (Lilly White or Frappuccino)
  • OR Frappuccino × Cappuccino as shown above

Breeding Sorak Safely

Sorak Genetics: (CAPP/CAPP , L/+)

SAFE Pairing:

Sorak (CAPP/CAPP , L/+) × Normal (+/+ , +/+):

For Cappuccino: Sorak passes CAPP (always), Normal passes + Result: All offspring CAPP/+

For Lilly White: Sorak passes L or +, Normal passes + Result: 50% L/+, 50% +/+

Combined Outcomes:

  • 50% Frappuccino (CAPP/+, L/+)
  • 50% Cappuccino (CAPP/+, +/+)

Result:

  • 50% Frappuccino (CAPP/+ , L/+)
  • 50% Cappuccino (CAPP/+ , +/+)
  • All viable ✓
  • No health issues from lethality ✓
  • May produce Super Cappuccino health profiles (monitor)

NEVER Pair:

  • Sorak × Lilly White (LETHAL RISK - both carry L)
  • Sorak × Frappuccino (LETHAL RISK - both carry L)
  • Sorak × Sorak (LETHAL RISK - both carry L)

Market Value

Sorak: $1000-$2500+ (extreme rarity, unique appearance, health monitoring required, complex genetics)

Why So Expensive:

  • Very difficult to produce (low odds)
  • Requires Super Cappuccino parent
  • Extreme unique appearance (melanin only)
  • Very rare availability
  • Requires health monitoring and disclosure
  • Complex three-gene combination story

Tangerine Lilly - Another Advanced Combination

What It Is

Lilly White + Tangerine combination where tangerine pigment replaces white areas.

Formula: L/+ + TANG

Visual Characteristics

  • Deep tangerine coloration in areas that would normally be white
  • Highlighter yellow variations when one parent contributes tangerine
  • Color intensity develops with age - timing varies by individual
  • Various base colors and base combo variants possible
  • Unique and striking appearance

Development Pattern:

  • Color develops at different times as animal matures
  • Some show early, some develop later
  • Individual variation in intensity
  • Unpredictable timing

Genetics

Tangerine inheritance still under research:

  • Exact inheritance pattern unknown
  • Appears to influence both White Pattern and Orange Pattern colors
  • Creates pink or tangerine hues in pattern areas
  • Work in progress - more breeding data needed

Safe Breeding:

  • Same Lilly White safety rules apply
  • NEVER pair Tangerine Lilly × Lilly White (LETHAL RISK)
  • NEVER pair two Tangerine Lillys (LETHAL RISK)
  • ONLY safe: Tangerine Lilly × Normal (no Lilly White)

Market Value

Tangerine Lilly: $500-$1500+

Key Takeaways - Advanced Combinations

Critical Safety Points:

  1. Frappuccino = CAPP/+ + L/+ (two genes, two loci)
  2. Frappuccino carries Lilly White (creates lethal risk)
  3. NEVER pair Frappuccino × Lilly White (25% death)
  4. NEVER pair Frappuccino × Frappuccino (25% death)
  5. ONLY safe: Frappuccino × Normal (no Lilly White, no risk)
  6. Sorak = CAPP/CAPP + L/+ (Super Cappuccino + Lilly White)

  • For Sorak: Frappuccino × Cappuccino (can produce Super Cappuccino + Lilly White)
  • Always verify genetics before pairing
  • Always educate buyers
  • Never compromise on safety

Market Hierarchy:

By Rarity/Price:

  1. Sorak - $1000-$2500+ (hardest to produce, extreme appearance)
  2. Frappuccino - $800-$3000+ (dramatic, high demand)
  3. Tangerine Lilly - $500-$1500+ (unique color development)
  4. Lilly White - $300-$1500+ (foundation trait)
  5. Cappuccino - $200-$600 (more common)

All require ethical breeding practices and buyer education.
