The dog breeder website your kennel program actually needs.
Pedigrees, health testing, litter management, and a professional kennel site. One platform instead of the spreadsheet, the WordPress plugin from 2019, and the Facebook post that says "DM me for details."
Built by someone from the sport. 20+ years in dogs. Foundation involvement in ABKC during the American Bully breed's formative years. Best in Show. UKC group placements. Part of the founding group that established the American Bully breed club within UKC.
Free to start. No credit card.
Generic website tools were not built for dog breeders.
Wix, Squarespace, and even most WordPress plugins treat dogs as a photo gallery subject. Pedigrees, health clearances, litter announcements, and show titles are afterthoughts at best and impossible at worst.
Pedigrees are not a feature in generic builders.
The last dedicated pedigree plugin for WordPress with active maintenance is years old. Wix and Squarespace have no pedigree feature at all. Serious buyers want to see the three and four generation tree. There is nowhere to put it.
Health clearances buried in photo captions.
OFA evaluations, PennHIP scores, cardiac clearances, Embark panels. These are thousands of dollars of testing that responsible breeders invest in. There is no dedicated field for any of it in Squarespace. Buyers cannot find it without emailing you.
Litter management is not a blog post.
A Facebook post that says three puppies available and DM for details is not a breeding program. Litter management means expected dates, born dates, available count, reserved count, and a real waitlist. None of that is in Wix.
Show titles and registration numbers live nowhere.
CH, GCH, BIS, BISS, group placements. These belong on the animal profile and in the pedigree tree, the way the dog world expects to see them. There is no title field in Squarespace. AKC and UKC registration numbers end up crammed into a notes field or a photo caption if they appear at all.
Your litters deserve more than a Facebook post.
Dog breeders revolve around litters. Planned breedings, confirmed pregnancies, whelping, available puppies, reserved puppies. That entire workflow lives on your public site, not scattered across DMs and spreadsheets.
- Litter announcement pages with status tracking. Planned, confirmed, born, available, and sold out statuses visible to buyers.
- Sire and dam listed with direct links to their pedigree pages. Buyers see exactly what they are getting behind their puppy.
- Puppy count display showing available and reserved. No more buyers emailing to ask if you still have puppies.
- Buyer waitlist management. Buyers sign up for upcoming litters directly through your site instead of texting you.
- Deposit tracking and reservation management integrated into your litter workflow.
Litter announcement page
Real pedigree trees, not a list of names in a notes field.
For dog breeders, pedigrees are not a nice-to-have. They are the foundation of the program. Every pairing decision, every breeding contract, every buyer conversation starts with the pedigree. Breed Ledger makes it work the way the dog world expects.
- Multi-generation pedigree trees displayed on every dog profile. Not a static image. A live, clickable tree that updates automatically.
- Titles displayed the way the dog world expects. CH before the name. GCH, BIS, and group placements shown in context. Update a title once and it cascades everywhere.
- AKC and UKC registration numbers as standard fields on every animal profile, visible to buyers on your public site.
- Cross-breeder pedigree linking. If a dog in your pedigree was bred by someone else on the platform, the lineage connects with their approval. The tree gets deeper without you doing the work.
- Smart cascading updates. Change a dog name, title, or detail and it updates across every pedigree that references that dog.

Health clearances visible to buyers without them asking.
Responsible breeders invest thousands in health testing. OFA hip and elbow evaluations, PennHIP scores, cardiac exams, Embark and Wisdom Panel genetic results. These clearances are what separate a responsible breeding program from a backyard breeder. They belong on the animal profile where buyers can find them, not in a folder on your desk.
- Health testing results added to each dog profile and displayed on your public site. OFA evaluations, genetic panel results, and breed-specific clearances all in one place.
- Buyers see clearances the moment they land on a dog profile. No email required. No hunting through your about page for a PDF.
- Health records organized per animal. Every dog in your program has their own health history, not a shared page that lumps everything together.
- Health document upload. Attach the actual OFA certificate or Embark report to the profile.

I did not Google "dog breeding market size" and decide to build software.
I grew up in this world. I have stood ringside, agonized over pairings, navigated breed club politics, and rebuilt my breeding program from scratch more than once. Breed Ledger exists because I needed it and nothing adequate existed.

Started in dogs. Family bred and showed ADBA American Pit Bull Terriers. The sport was not a hobby, it was the household.
Early 2000s
Pivoted to American Bullies when the breed was still being created and the standard was still being debated at ringside.
Around 2005
Became deeply involved in ABKC during its foundation years as the American Bully breed took shape and found its registry.
Junior adult
Won Best in Show under ABKC as a junior adult competitor. The kind of result that comes from years of pairing decisions paying off.
Post-college
Made group placements in UKC. Part of the founding group that established the American Bully breed club within UKC.
Now
Also an active crested gecko breeder running Geckistry. Built ReptiDex. Breed Ledger is the platform I wanted for both programs.
You have probably already looked at the other options.
Here is an honest assessment of the landscape. No trash-talking. Dog breeders talk to each other and they know when something is unfair.
Generic site builders: Wix, Squarespace, Weebly
Beautiful templates. Genuinely easy to use. Zero breeder features. There is no pedigree field, no health testing section, no litter management, no registration number field. You will build a marketing site and then spend years apologizing to buyers for sending them to your Facebook page to see the actual animal details. These tools are not wrong, they just were not built for you.
WordPress breeder themes: 3plains, Better Breeder, Breed Basket
Dog-specific features exist here that generic builders cannot touch. These themes understand that breeders need pedigree fields and litter pages. The problem is the platform underneath. WordPress requires ongoing maintenance, plugin conflict management, security patches, and hosting decisions that most breeders did not sign up for. And you are still assembling a product from pieces, not using an integrated system.
PowerBreeder
The free tier has gotten a lot of breeders organized. That matters. But the product has not meaningfully updated in years. There is no e-commerce, limited genetics support, no mobile-optimized output, and the design is dated in a way that affects how professional buyers perceive your program. If you have outgrown it, that instinct is correct.
Herobreeder
App-managed sites at around $39 per month. An interesting approach and the mobile management angle is real. The limitation is that you do not directly control your own site. Everything flows through their app. That works until you need something the app does not support.
BreederBuddy
Strong CRM and records management for breeders who need a private workflow tool. The website component is different: sites are built per client by the founder rather than as a self-service platform. That is a fundamentally different product. It is not competing in the same space as a scalable, self-service kennel website builder.
What makes Breed Ledger different
Breed Ledger is the only option that combines a professional, self-service kennel website with real pedigree trees, integrated health testing display, genetics tracking, litter management, and a built-in breeder directory. One platform. And the only one built by someone who has actually stood ringside, registered dogs with ABKC and UKC, and run a multi-species breeding program.
Breed Ledger supports reptile breeders too. See the reptile breeder platform
